Work Trips to La Vida Nicaragua

Work Trips to La Vida Nicaragua

Volunteer Work Teams

Each year, volunteer work teams partner with LA VIDA to help transform the community of San Juan de Oriente.

Work trips are a practical way for many people from other parts of the world to help participate directly in our work. Most trips last about ten days and are intentionally designed to immerse groups into a new culture, one that they often know very little about and to which they have probably not been exposed. With this in mind, we offer work projects that will allow teams to work side by side with locals, and activities are designed to help those from other countries gain a better cultural understanding of life in Nicaragua and ultimately the local community. Local involvement and integration are vital in the development of all our programs, and as a result, we believe that work projects should continue to foster this goal.

Work Trips in Action: The River Church Community

Images of Kids in Nicaragua - Art ProjectSince 2004, The River Church Community has sent a work team to Nicaragua to run a day camp for the kids of San Juan de Oriente.  This has become an annual highlight for the community as 300 kids flock to the week long event to participate in art projects, music, games, and educational activities.

For one art project, The River had volunteers snap Polaroid photos of each of the kids and let them decorate the frames of the pictures.  This may sound trivial, but for many kids, it was the highlight of camp and the only photo they had of themselves.
